THE PACKAGE

NASA’s mission to Mars is still in a distant future, but your mission to land that elusive trick combo is within reach today!

As technology advances, so does our ability to hit new trick milestones. How frustrating is it to get through that combo and when it comes time to return to base… it’s "crash and burn"? Well, we have come up with the perfect response pads to end all frustration when it comes time to land.

Good things happen in pairs and so do the greatest response pads on earth (and beyond). LANDING PADS come in packs of 2 individual pads, unless you opt for bulk packs of up to 40 individual pads which we term “trick survival kits”. These trick survival kits will make their intergalactic journey to your home in proprietary space capsules, which are flown by RSO’s very own ambassador Hachiko.

THE SCIENCE

For you rocket science buffs, here’s what makes our LANDING PADS perform beyond today’s conventional offerings. We have used a compound that performs better on your strings and we’re happy to share our secret here. Many of today’s response pads are typically rated 60 on the Shore Hardness Scale. Those who skateboard would be familiar with this scale, which is frequently referenced during the customization process of skateboard wheels - higher the number on the scale, the harder the material. To put things into perspective, pencil eraser tips are rated approximately 40, while tire threads are rated about 60 on the scale. The number 60 has been the sweet spot because the material is soft enough to grip, yet hard enough to die-cut easily when it comes to manufacturing.

TYPE 40 (magenta) is softer than TYPE 50 (cyan)

We decided to spare no expense and experiment with softer compounds resulting in a magenta (rated Shore 40) and cyan version (rated Shore 50) that provide more grip, which in turn generates more torque on a throw and more friction at lower spin speeds. What that means to you is that you can go on a longer trick journey, still have enough fuel to return home for that regen and continue your adventure to places you’ve never explored. We also produced this composite in a matte finish that grips evenly from the first throw, so no break-in period is required.

FITS old SCHOOL GSQUARED yo-yos that utilise G-grips

will also fit MODERN CLYW yo-yos but will sit slightly RECESSED IN THE RESPONSE GROOVE

Older CLYW yo-yos such as the Peak, Bear vs Man, and Wooly Marmot were originally shipped with flowable silicon before Snow Tire response pads were introduced. The Snow Tires measure 4mm thicker than the response grooves on these models, yielding a fit that sticks out like a sore thumb… literally when you get a surprise return that smashes your digits. The picture on the bottom left illustrates an Iron Man Peak ill-fitted with aqua Snow Tires. If you don’t like to mess around with flowable silicon, these white CLYW Thin LANDING PADS are your answer. Just look at the same Iron Man Peak on the right, which is fitted perfectly! These LANDING PADS are rated Shore 50.

And surprise! CLYW thin LANDING PADS are also compatible with older GSQUARED yo-yos which use G-GRIP response pads.

On newer CLYW releases, CLYW thin LANDING PADS offer a slightly recessed response for those who are super particular about their string not touching the pads for tricks that require multiple string layers. The picture on the bottom shows a Hulk Smash Peak 2 retrofitted with these pads which sit slightly lower than the walls of the response groove. CLYW thin LANDING PADS sit a fraction deeper in the response grooves for newer CLYW models.

All 19mm and CLYW thin / GSQUARED LANDING PADS are powered by high grade 3M adhesives.

COLLABORATION WITH THE YOYOLAB

FITS ALL RSO D BEARING YO-YOS

We collaborated with the ingenious yo-yo scientists at The Yoyolab for these turquoise D bearing pads, which fit all D bearing RSO models. These response pads are prototyped and exclusively manufactured by The Yoyolab. The Yoyolab was formerly known as AHAY (A House About Yo-Yo) and are veterans of the yo-yo industry. These pads have a unique shine, are rated Shore 40 and are equipped with a unique adhesive that is proprietary to The Yoyolab, with a solid brown backing sticker instead of one with 3M logos. Up to this day, no standard measurement for D bearing pads exists. RSO will actively promote these pads, and we hope that these will eventually become the industry standard in the foreseeable future.

SOFTER THAN TYPE 40 (magenta) AND TYPE 50 (cyan)

Our second response pads collaboration is with Atmos Projects. Named “Saturn Rings”, these peach colored response pads are rated Shore 30 and are the softest pads in our lineup. This batch is prototyped and produced exclusively by RSO and is identical to Landing Pads. The only difference is a new, harder backing sticker with red 3M logos instead of the softer grey one found in the rest of the Landing Pads range. Additionally, we recommend designing your response groove slightly deeper at 1.2mm (typical of all RSO yo-yos) instead of the usual 1.15mm - the pad will sit slightly recessed in the response groove, which will allow the player to experience its intended playfeel.
