I first prototyped the Side Effects (SE) version of the YWETi more than a year ago, in September 2019. To preserve the original aesthetic and to avoid introducing any variable that would render the yo-yo unplayable, the profile of the SE nipple was left unmodified. Due to the higher density of titanium compared to aluminum, the first run of the YWETi SE Edition (I am naming it the MK I) had more center weight than the aluminum SE YWET. However, this was not glaringly apparent during play since the MK I was equipped with flap cap SEs that compensated (albeit not entirely) for the increased center weight.
The profile of the original SE nipple you see on all SE yo-yos on the market has a gradual slope (refer to the diagram below). I am uncertain why One Drop makes them this way, but I postulate it might be for aesthetic reasons or that the thicker base of the nipple prevents warping of the material during the machining process.

Due to the YWETi SE Edition's immense popularity, with the demand far exceeding supply, a second run (MK II) was planned. I felt I had gained enough experience with SEs to try something different. A significant amount of weight was shaved off from the SE nipple for the MK II, with the weight added to the inner rims. These changes collectively make the MK II play a touch closer to the aluminum SE YWET than the MK I. The vertical profile of the SE nipple also more closely resembles the aluminum non-SE YWET, adding to the sense of nostalgia. The SE nipple design on the MK II will be a stepping stone to future RSO SE nipple designs.
If you are wondering, I do not have a favorite version! I find it hard to choose between the two and often alternate between them. The MK I is a beauty to behold due to its similar appearance to the aluminum SE YWET, while the MK II brings me back instantly to the old school Anti-Yo era on my first throw. You would be happy with either version!
